January is proving to be a busy month for me creatively and logistically.
I’m finishing last revisions for Timpani Forces, which will get premiered by Dave Constantine in New Orleans in April. I’m pretty excited about the piece and think it will be well-received in the percussion community as a unique piece of timpani literature. Look for updates in the next couple of months!
Mardi Gras season is just around the corner! I’ve been doing a lot of writing and planning for Tulane University to ensure that our mardi gras season goes smoothly. I’m going to be arranging Birdland for the band, going back to my roots with the Crossmen when i marched in 1996. I’m sure that as i start going through that it will bring back a lot of memories.
The winter drumline show for Hermiston High School is about 2/3rds of the way complete. It’s been awesome to be able to write and design a winter percussion show again and to continue to push the boundaries of the percussionists that are a part of Kim’s program. Although they aren’t going to be in a competitive circuit, it will be good practice for them to prepare for the following fall and keep them playing and excited about marching percussion.
Here’s hoping i can get through the next couple of weeks unscathed!
